What in the world is this rash from? Have you ever felt itchy or bumpy, and noticed you have an unidentified rash? Do you suffer from rashes periodically or an ongoing basis? Contact dermatitis may be exactly what you have. It could be sudden in onset or appear gradually. This catch all term type of rash only “scratches” the surface of this condition.
The cause of contact dermatitis is the result of skin exposure to an allergen or irritant. Symptoms of contact dermatitis may include a red rash, hives, or welt like blisters. Any rash can be mild or severe. At the onset of the outbreak, care should be taken to wash the area with a mild soap and rinse thoroughly.
A visit to your dermatologist can definitely help. Corticosteroids such as hydrocortisone and/or antihistamines may be prescribed. Self diagnosing and using over the counter creams and lotions could actually make the rash worse. Call today to schedule an appointment at Center For Dermatology to properly evaluate your condition. With extended hours and two convenient locations, help is just a phone call away.

Center For Dermatology, Laser and Cosmetic Surgery under the direction of Harold Farber M.D. is an approved treatment center for the infusion of Remicade (Infliximab). With two offices conveniently located in Northeast Philadelphia and Narberth, PA as well as several convenient infusion times why not schedule an appointment to see if this safe and effective treatment is right for you?
What is Remicade? Remicade is a prescription medicine approved for patients with Plaque Psoriasis, Psoriatic Arthritis, Crohn’s Disease, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Ankylosing Spondylitis and Ulcerative Colitis.
How does Remicade work? Remicade is a monoclonal antibody that identifies and binds to a specific protein produced by the immune system called tumor necrosis alpha (TNF-alpha). The over production of TNF leads to inflammation in conditions such as: rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, plaque psoriasis, Crohn’s (pediatric and adult) disease. Remicade can stop the inflammation by binding and blocking TNF-alpha.
How is Remicade administered? Remicade is administered directly into a vein. Some improvement of symptoms might be seen two days after treatment, but it may take up to two weeks after infusion to see significant improvement.
How long will the treatment take? Treatment is typically about three hours long. Healthcare professionals, including a nurse and physician, will oversee the administration. Our trained staff are available for clinical and scheduling questions.
Does my insurance cover Remicade? Most insurance carries cover Remicade. Our trained staff will review your benefits and obtain any authorization necessary prior to your first scheduled treatment date. All covered expenses as well as out of pocket expenses due, are clearly explained to our patients.
Many of our patients feel that their quality of life has improved. Many patients suffer in silence and are unaware of the various therapeutic options available including Remicade to treat their psoriasis. Feel free to schedule an appointment, discuss your options and see if this or another treatment is right for you.

Among the latest procedures for reducing wrinkles particularly around the eyes and the mouth is laser resurfacing. Laser resurfacing works by removing the old bad layers of skin and having new layers of skin form. The new layers are smoother, tighter and more youthful in appearance. The classic procedure is done with a CO2 laser although the down time with this procedure may be significant leaving redness and even scabs on occasion. Our office offers a new technique referred to as fractionated laser resurfacing. Fractionated laser resurfacing has minimal to no down time and do not have the postoperative side effects typical of the CO2 lasers. Less postoperative bruising and discomfort with long lasting results are noted with some of these new fractionated lasers.
These procedures are usually performed under local anesthesia. They are typically more effective than certain mild peels classically referred to in the past as lunch time peels or microdermabrasions. Typically a patient will notice significant improvement and a more youthful appearance. For more information please contact Harold Farber, M.D.
